About Gerard van Keulen: Dutchman Gerard van Keulen (1678-1727) and his father ran the marine chart company Van Keulen which was the largest of its kind in Europe in the mid-eighteenth century and almost served as an unofficial maritime authority for the continent Gerard van Keulen was an excellent engraver and well versed in mathematics and navigation.
